Gavi-8 set Colony.

In 1975, KFDC was established as a joint venture between the Central and State Government of Kerala. In Gavi, a plantation was initiated, and later, it accommodated around 2,000 Indian-origin Tamil refugees who were deported from Sri Lanka. However, as the central government changed its policy and decided not to renew the plantations in Gavi—since it is located inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve.
This is the story of a family from the 8-Set Colony in Gavi, where all families eventually relocated except for three. Jayashanker's mother was a worker in the estate. After her passing, Jayan couldn't secure a permanent job there. He worked as a daily wager in the estate while also taking up driving jobs outside Gavi. However, when the estate authorities started removing daily wage workers who took leave on working days, Jayan and Chandra were forced to give up outside work. Since quarters were only allotted to estate workers who were consistently available, they had to forgo the extra income from external jobs. Although they were offered quarters in another colony, an electricity connection required a fee of ₹8,000. As a result, they decided to stay back in the 8-Set Colony. Chandra is from Pampanar, near Peerumedu.
